Having recognized that the obstacles he encountered as an FGLI researcher were common among other underrepresented groups, Elvis also contributed to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) for other minorities in academia (e.g., international students and scholars) through his writing and outreach activities.

In 2022, Elvis co-authored “Flourishing as international students and scholars in the US” on Matter (Cell Press) to call for institutional support for the international community, and was recently featured in “Obstacle race: the barriers facing graduates who study abroad” on Nature to call for more funding agencies to open their doors to international applicants.
